Play Area

A survey was carried out during the summer of 1994 to establish if there was any interest from the parishioners for a recreational facility in the village of Wyverstone. Following positive survey results, it was agreed at the Parish Council that a subcommittee could be formed to further investigate, evaluate and prepare recommendations for further consideration by the Parish Council.

The first meeting was held on 3rd November 1994. A chairman & secretary were appointed (James Arnold and Ron Dodsworth respectively). The other committee members were David Mason, Brian Spofforth, Lyn Arnold, Susan Allison and Gaynor Willison Gray.

Fundraising commenced with Barbecues, Dances, Discos, Trolley Dash, and Summer Fayres. Grants were also received from a variety of sources including Suffolk Acre, Shell Community Service Fund and Wyverstone Town Estate Trustees. Planning application was granted on 20th June 1995.

Following a three year campaign the play area was opened on 24th May 1997. Play equipment had been installed at an initial cost of £6,000. There is everything from adventure equipment to swings and logs for children as young as 1 to 14 years old. Seats are installed and trees have been planted in the area which is surrounded by a hedgerow.

In late 2015 the play area lease was renewed for a futher 21 years and responsibility transfered to the Village Hall Committee. During 2016 consultation will begin on updating and improving the play equipment.
