Village Hall History

The old elementary school was closed by the local education authority on 26 July 1963. The Parish Council purchased the school for £1,000 and the former school room was used as the village hall whilst the school house was let. This continued until the building was sold in 1988 for conversion to a domestic dwelling. The proceeds were then invested in the construction of the modern village hall that we see today.

The village hall was built for around £75,000 and was built on land formerly owned by the Black family by Bob Allwood of Bacton. The new building was officially opened in March 1989 by Mr David Black. In 1991 the hall was extended and was almost completed until unfortunately the hall was damaged by a fire in the roof space. The hall reopened in August of that year.

In 2017 the first stage of the Hall refurbishment was completed. A new bar was built and a dedicated lounge area was created. An air conditioning and heating system was installed along with new lighting.

In 2018 an audio visual system with projector, screen and surround sound was added to the Hall's facilities.

In 2019 superfast broadband wifi was installed

Wyverstone Village Hall is very popular and is used for a huge number of events by a large number of groups and organisations from within and outside the parish
